Medical Screenings
Getting screened is one of the top health goals for everyone. The following recommendations are for normal-risk adults. People at increased risk may need earlier or more frequent screenings based on their health care provider’s advice. Early detection of a condition can make it easier to treat and help prevent complications such as serious illness or disability.

Screenings for Everyone
Test/Exam   When Needed
Blood Pressure   Every health care visit or at least every 2 years.
Cholesterol   Starting at 20 and every 4 to 6 years or as advised.
Colorectal Cancer   Starting at 45 or as advised.
Dental, Eye and Hearing   As advised.
Blood Sugar   Starting at 45 and every 3 years or as advised.
Skin Cancer   As advised.
Weight   Body Mass Index (BMI) Goal: 18.5-24.9
Waist Measure Goal:
Below 35 inches (women)
Below 40 inches (men)
 
Depression as advised: Consult your health care provider if you have symptoms or special risks, such as family history, for these conditions.
 
Screening for Women
Test/Exam   When Needed
Breast Cancer   Begin at age 40 to 44, if desired. Ages 45 to 54: Annually. Age 55+: Every 1 to 2 years.
Cervical Cancer   Starting at 21 or as advised.
Osteoporosis   Starting at 65 or earlier as advised.
 
Talk to your health care provider about unusual symptoms and other health concerns not listed, such as sexually transmitted infections, HIV, depression and anxiety. Be a partner in your health care.
 
Screening for Men
Test/Exam   When Needed
Prostate Cancer   Starting at 50 or as advised.
