- Always wear plastic safety goggles and shields when you work in the yard, use harsh sprays and chemicals or use power tools.
- Always follow eye safety procedures in your work place.
- Keep contact lenses clean. Wear glasses instead of contacts when working with chemical fumes, fine airborne particles or high heat.
- Watch for rapid changes in your vision and see your eye doctor immediately if you notice sudden blurring, decreasing ability to focus, or unusual sensitivity to light.
- Don't allow young children to play with sharp-edged toys or pointed objects.
- Wear plastic sports glasses when playing high-impact sports such as racquetball and handball. Be sure kids wear helmets with face guards when playing any high-impact sports.
- Keep children at a safe distance from firecrackers, lawnmowers and eye-hazardous chemicals.
Don't be one of thousands of Americans who suffer eye injuries each year.
