What are you doing to stay healthy? The following checklist for men is based on the latest guidelines from Canadian health organizations. How are your health care habits?
Routine Screening
I have my cholesterol checked at least every 5 years. I am age 20+ and have my blood pressure checked at least every 2 years. I am age 40+ and am screened for type 2 diabetes at least every 3 years. I am age 50+ and am screened for colorectal cancer at least every 2 years.

Provider Talks
I recognize the need, if applicable, to discuss testing for sexually transmitted diseases. I recognize the need to discuss depression screening if sadness persists beyond 2 weeks. I periodically discuss the pros and cons of prostate cancer screening. I have discussed taking aspirin to prevent heart disease. I have consulted my provider about necessary vaccines.

I don't smoke; if I do I have discussed quitting with my provider. I eat a balanced diet most days of the week that includes fresh produce, lean protein sources, lowfat dairy foods, and whole grains. I engage in a sport or moderate exercise most days of the week. I maintain a healthy weight with diet and exercise. I don't drink alcohol; if I do, I drink only in moderation (2 drinks a day or less – 1 drink = 13.6g).
